What to install where

Match the tool to the space, and both overspending and underperformance take care of themselves.

Large halls used intensively in peak summer. The cheapest workable setup is cooling supported by fans. Air movement lets the system run at a higher, cheaper setting while people still feel comfortable, and it stops cool air pooling in the middle while the far corners stay stuffy. The fans add almost nothing to the bill, so they reduce the total rather than increasing it.

How many fans a hall needs

This is the question that decides whether a fan installation works, and it gets skipped more often than any other.

Fans cool the zone beneath them, so coverage is about spacing rather than raw power. A 1200 mm fan serves roughly ten to twelve square metres of floor, and units should be spaced so their coverage overlaps slightly. Gaps between fans become the dead spots that make a hall feel stuffy no matter how strong each individual unit is.

Mounting height matters just as much. Standard ceiling fans are designed for normal room heights, and as the ceiling rises the airflow reaching people at floor level drops away. Above roughly three and a half metres, a longer downrod brings the fan back into useful range, and beyond that the space has moved into HVLS territory.

Two practical points follow. Work out fan positions from the floor plan before ordering rather than after, and plan for the layout the room is actually used in, since a hall arranged for seated dining needs different coverage from the same hall used for standing events.

Why the motor decides the running cost

In a large space the fans stay on for most of the day, for most of the year. That makes the motor the single biggest factor in what they cost to own.

A conventional fan motor loses a large share of its power as heat. Can BLDC fans replace existing fans without rewiring?
